2006 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Because of your generous support, the animals we take into our program from Placer County Animal Shelter, remain in our care until adopted. With the help of many individuals like Chelsey (see volunteer profile) who contributed over 5,609 volunteer hours (not including the hours our life-saving foster homes provide) and one part-time employee, we found good homes for 463 animals and cared for 538 homeless animals in 2006.
A special $10,000 grant from Placer County, allowed us to issue vouchers for free and subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for 225 pets of county residents. Preventing the potential births of 585,000 animals over the next seven years.
These surgeries were performed by local veterinarians who participated by reducing their standard surgery fees to help control the pet overpopulation problem. As partners we're grateful for their generosity, helping our dollars stretch further.
Also last year, we continued our campaign at the Board of Supervisors level asking them to elevate the importance of Placer County Animal Shelter by moving the department out from under Health & Human Services and placing it in direct reporting to the County Executive Officer. We've also asked the Supervisors to rebuild the Auburn and Tahoe Vista animal shelters before building a third shelter in West Roseville. The Friends Board is committed to addressing pressing issues that signify changes are needed in order to operate a safe, effective program for the citizens and animals of Placer County.
Thirty-nine percent of our expenses go towards veterinary care because their health is important. We hope you will help us continue our work by making a special donation. Thank you for your on-going support and for caring about the animals.
